Konichiwa

Hi, I'm Marthe, 29 years old, and I live in beautiful Kyoto, Japan.

After my first visit to Japan in 2018, where I stayed with a host family during my minor at Kwansei Gakuin University, I knew my adventure here wasn't over yet. In 2022, I returned to Japan, and I've called it home ever since.

My Story

In 2021, I graduated as a Visual Designer and decided to return to Japan. However, the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic made my plans considerably more difficult. During Japan's lockdown, which took place during the coronavirus period, foreigners were not permitted to enter the country. When the rules eased somewhat, entry was limited to those with a visa. I decided to take a chance and applied for a Working Holiday Visa.

This visa is relatively new, so new, in fact, that no one had been able to use it before Covid. It was made available to Dutch citizens in 2021 and is only granted to a maximum of 200 Dutch citizens annually. The news that my visa application had been approved was therefore fantastic!

This is how my adventure in Japan began in September 2022!

What was originally supposed to be a three-month stay has now grown into four years, with much more to come. On my blog, I share my experiences and discoveries as I build my life in Japan. From exploring temples to savoring local cuisine, I'll take you along on my Japanese adventure. Thank you for being a part of my travel story!
